Professor Zaichkowsky has painted a picture of how the profession will look and operate into the future. He has raised many issues from the transition to a "hard science" to what the characteristics and styles are better received by elite coaches. His presentation may have challenged some who see their role primarily or predominantly around mental health, but with registration authorities tightening their view on the credentialing of "specialists" there may be a point in the near future where the delivery of any kind of mental health services are very strictly controlled. The "scientist / practitioner" model is currently in the garage getting an overhaul. What gets back on the road may have some interesting new trim and shiny colours, but it will have a very new engine and drive train.
